Day Two Panels

Room One

Meet & Greet

We’ve set aside a little time at the beginning of each round of panels to just sit and chat. It’s been a year since we were all last together. Here’s a chance to catch up and talk to some of our panellists in a more casual setting.

Warehouse 13

Host: ralst
Panellists: Beagmactire, TypeyTypeyTypey, webgeekist, Tristian
Times: Sunday: 17.00-19.00 (UK), 18.00-20.00 (Central EU), 12.00-14.00 (Eastern US), 11.00-13.00 (Central US), 10.00-12.00 (Mountain US), 9.00-11.00 (Pacific US), 6.00-8.00 (Hawaiian), Monday: 0.00-2.00 (Western AU), 2.00-4.00 (Eastern AU), 4.00-6.00 (NZ)
Synopsis: As we wait – not the least bit patiently – for the creators of Warehouse 13 to fully commit to the romance between Myka Berring and H.G. Wells that the audience and the actors want, we can take some measure of comfort in the amazingly varied and abundant femslash the fandom has produced. Join us to talk about that femslash and what we hope to see during Warehouse 13’s final season.

Rizzoli & Isles

Host: quiethearted
Panellists: CNWinters
Times: Sunday: 19.00-21.00 (UK), 20.00-22.00 (Central EU), 14.00-16.00 (Eastern US), 13.00-15.00 (Central US), 12.00-14.00 (Mountain US), 11.00-13.00 (Pacific US), 8.00-10.00 (Hawaiian), Monday: 2.00-4.00 (Western AU), 4.00-6.00 (Eastern AU), 6.00-8.00 (NZ)
Synopsis: A police detective and a medical examiner are married and living in Boston with their extended family, only they don’t seem to realise they’re married, even though the audience and all their friends do. At least that’s what I’ve been able to deduce from watching the show. Come along to see if I’m right or if it is really just a run of the mill crime show.

Once Upon a Time

Bomb Girls

Whether you’re a fan of the canon pairings or the subtext ones, Bomb Girls had something to offer, and while we await the TV movie that is supposed to tie up all the lose ends, come join us to discuss all things Bomb Girls.

Synopsis: This fantasy television series was given a new injection of life during its second season with the introduction of Cara Mason, the headstrong Mord’Sith, and the gradual evolution of her relationship with Kahlan, the Mother Confessor. It was a relationship that allowed each woman to blossom and the subtext sparks to fly. Sparks that were definitely in abundence during Cara’s canon relationship with fellow Mord’Sith Dahlia.

Room Three

Original Fiction

Synopsis: Writing fanfiction has its own problems and difficulties, but once we make the leap to original fiction, the world created becomes entirely our own. No longer will we have set universes with fleshed out characters to work with. Original fiction means starting from scratch and relying entirely on your own imagination. How difficult or easy is that to do? What makes original fiction work? Let’s talk about what it takes to make it as a writer of original fiction.

Fanworks & Copyright

Synopsis: Disclaimers. Most of us are aware that we need to put one on all our fanfiction works. Some can be quite official sounding and others are as simple as “Not Mine.” Why do we need these disclaimers? What’s the difference between a copyright and a Creative Commons License? What the heck is a Creative Commons License in the first place? What if we want to later try to have our fan-based work published? Join us as we try to answer these questions and many more.

Synopsis: We’ve often talked about the need to have our stories beta read, but a good beta can be hard to find. What are some of the most common mistakes writer’s make? How can improve the quality of our work and learn to self-edit as we write? What common errors should we, as writers, watch for? How do we stay in a single POV, or do we even need to? Let’s hear what some experienced betas have to say on these subjects and more.

Small Fandoms

Host: ariestess
Panellists: Alsike, Tamoline
Times: Sunday: 20.00-21.00 (UK), 21.00-22.00 (Central EU), 15.00-16.00 (Eastern US), 14.00-15.00 (Central US), 13.00-14.00 (Mountain US), 12.00-13.00 (Pacific US), 9.00-10.00 (Hawaiian), Monday: 3.00-4.00 (Western AU), 5.00-6.00 (Eastern AU), 7.00-8.00 (NZ)
Synopsis: Not all fandoms will reach the dizzy heights of a Xena or Guiding Light but that doesn’t mean that they’re not producing some truly excellent femslash. Join us to discuss the new fandoms on the block, as well as those that have stayed the course, and what the future has in store for all of them.

Crossovers/AUs

Host: quiethearted
Panellists: Alsike, Tamoline, JazWriter
Times: Sunday: 21.00-22.00 (UK), 22.00-23.00 (Central EU), 16.00-17.00 (Eastern US), 15.00-16.00 (Central US), 14.00-15.00 (Mountain US), 13.00-14.00 (Pacific US), 10.00-11.00 (Hawaiian), Monday:4.00-5.00 (Western AU),6.00-7.00 (Eastern AU), 8.00-9.00 (NZ)
Synopsis: In the world of television executives and powerhouse networks the chances of your two favourite fandoms coming together and producing something truly satisfying for a femslash audience are two steps beyond impossible. Not so with the talented writers and artists in the femslash community whose creativity knows no bounds and take great delight in crossing fandoms and importing femslash characters into other fandom worlds. Star Trek, Buffy, even Grey’s Anatomy, have dabbled in the world of Alternate Realities, but they are merely amateurs when compared to their femslash counterparts. So if you’ve ever wanted to see Emily Prentiss and Helen Magnus travel through time in the TARDIS while searching for Gabrielle’s lost scroll, this is the panel for you.

Hot Topics

Host: Dhamphir
Times: Sunday: 22.00-23.00 (UK), 23.00-24.00 (Central EU), 17.00-18.00 (Eastern US), 16.00-17.00 (Central US), 16.00-16.00 (Mountain US), 14.00-15.00 (Pacific US), 11.00-12.00 (Hawaiian), Monday:5.00-6.00 (Western AU),7.00-8.00 (Eastern AU), 9.00-10.00 (NZ)
Synopsis: Hot Topics is where we take a bit of time to talk about all things that make femslash and fanfiction fun. What do you think are the next big fandoms out there? How do world events effect what we do and write? For instance, the US Supreme Court just issued a landmark decision striking down the Congress’ anti-gay marriage legislation and overturning California’s Proposition 8 which banned gays from everything but breathing. What are your thoughts on this and how it will effect current and potential femslash fandoms in the future, or will it have an effect at all?
